Stronger advice for parents

Update from the Department of Education

Stronger advice for parents.

We need to continue to stress to the community the importance of keeping their children at home wherever possible, and to minimise mobility to stop the spread of the virus.

In light of the new Public Health Order (PHO) the Department of Education has provided stronger advice for parents and carers about keeping their child at home wherever possible.

"Parents must keep children - of all ages at home if they can. Students will be supported to learn from home. Thank you for your support.”

Only students of essential ‘critical’ services are to be sent to school or those that need to as they are vulnerable as discussed with the principal.  Please contact the school via email (flinders-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au) or on 42957355 to discuss if you are unsure or need clarification.

The Public Health Order (PHO) is to minimise mobility of people.  As the latest advice will impact on many of our families I remind all of our parents and carers to take the necessary steps to look after their families wellbeing.  This is also the case for the staff at Flinders Public School.  The new PHO’s and departmental guidelines are constantly refined to address the issues as they develop across the State of NSW.  As such, staff will be further minimised in accordance with the new guidelinesOnly those students that have no other option will be onsite at school undertaking the online body of work with minimal supervision.

The school is available to assist and has provided a number of families with devices, instruction sheets / videos and support material. Weekly overviews will be posted today (Sunday) and in week two on Friday in preparation for the upcoming week. Further support and resources will be coming out this week to assist and connect our students to their learning and their peers.  I thank the staff, teaching, support and administration for the manner in which they have had to adjust, adapt and be nimble to deliver learning opportunities in new and creative ways.

During this time of incredible uncertainty, I urge families to allow themselves time to come to terms with learning at home.  Take the pressure off and only do what you are able to do.  Reach out to the school using email and the phone so that staff can assist.  The quantity of work is not the issue of the day.  Relationships, care for each other and trust in us all working together will help us to move through these challenging times.

I greatly appreciate the support extended by our school community.  As parents and carers, the Flinders Public School community has been exceptional in supporting their children, their families, our community and our staff.
