Term 3 Information For Parents

Take Care of Each Other

Important Information for Week 1 Term 3

Flinders Public School is currently in Level 4 restriction as per the advice of the NSW Department of Health and NSW Department of Education.

What does this mean for students?

All students are encouraged to learn from home during week 1 (Tuesday 13th July – Friday 16th July). Whilst our school will remain open to provide minimal supervision for students whose parents or carers are essential workers and are unable to make alternative arrangements, it is the Premier of NSW and Departments intention to reduce the number of people moving about the community during the “Stay at home orders”.

What does this mean for staff?

Staff numbers at school will also be significantly reduced as per the orders. All staff on site will be required to wear a face mask unless medically exempt and observe the Department of Health and Education guidelines regarding physical distancing.

How will students be learning?

There will be a program of work that will be provided to all students.  All students in the same grade/stage will undertake the same work. This body of work is the same work to ensure that all students are supported. Students will be supported with work that is aligned to their normal curriculum, it will simply be delivered in a different manner.

How will my child access the work?

On Monday 12th July at 3:00pm a weekly overview will be uploaded to Google Classroom as outlined in the student information material sent out at the end of last Term.  This can be reissued if required by emailing the school on Monday 12th July if required. The password for your child/ren and a “how to instruction sheet” for using Google Classroom” material was also included and it too can be requested via email on Monday.

From Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th, a teacher from your child’s grade or stage will post a daily message, provide a daily program of work and mark attendance at 8:55am. Teachers will provide feedback/comments.

Who can I contact for help?

Parent/Carers enquiries can be made through the school email the address is flinders-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au  If there is a question regarding a student or their learning, simply put the student’s name, class and the issue in the subject line.  The administration team can then direct this enquiry to the grade teacher and their supervisor if required. This ensures that the classroom teacher gets the enquiry and it can be followed up promptly.  If the enquiry is regarding grade or stage organisation then the administration team can forward this to the stage supervisors to be followed up. If the enquiry is about a school matter or another issue the administration team will forward that to the principal.

Parents/Carers can contact the school using the phone line [02 4295 7355] and the administration team will attempt to assist or email the enquiry through to the correct area, as outlined above.

What school services have to change?

There will be no canteen in operation.

There will be no sale of school uniforms from the office under level 4 restrictions as per guidelines issued to schools.

School Religious Education (SRE) will not occur during this period under level 4 restrictions as per guidelines issued to schools.

How long will this last?

Presently this is for week 1 of Term 3 (Tuesday 13th July – Friday 16th July).  Communication will be sent home to parents and carers as soon as possible about any changes to this timeframe.

Parents and Carers accessing the school?

Parents and carers are not allowed on site unless invited by the principal or a delegate of the principal for an essential matter. Non-essential visitors will not be permitted on site.  There will be no excursions or incursions during this period of restrictions.

We are in this together:

The school acknowledges the challenge that learning from home presents.  The last time that we as a school community faced this challenge, we were able to work together to make a difficult situation positive.  I am confident that another collective effort will further develop our students’ confidence, resilience and perseverance. We do need to take time and look after each other by having reasonable expectations of what can occur during this period.  There is no expectation that parents and Carers are now running their own school.  We are all in this together.

I thank you for your understanding and support during this time of change.

Regards

Greg Wells
